A LEADER WE CAN DEPEND ON TO BUILD A BETTER OREGON

issues4BACK TO THE BASICS
Our highway system needs improvement, nearly one out of three students are failing to graduate, public safety patrols are at an all time low, and yet we continue to face annual budget crises for basic governmental services. Our state budget has doubled, yet we continue to drain the budget into projects that just don’t serve Oregonians wisely. It’s time to return to the basic priorities; strengthening the public safety system, funding education, and creating jobs to ensure the success of future generations.

FOCUS ON JOBS AND THE ECONOMY
In order to strengthen our economy, it is crucial to create an environment that promotes job growth. Oregon is blessed with some of the nation’s most abundant natural resources. We have the ability to be self-sustaining, but instead we are taking jobs away from Oregonians by outsourcing. While in office, I have crafted a bill that would create over 3,000 timber-harvesting jobs while increasing sustainable harvesting in State Forests. Unfortunately, the legislation failed to pass. Passing legislation that brings jobs back to Oregonians, supports small business, and ensures the government acts as a stepping-stone rather than a stumbling block is vital to strengthening our economy.

issues2STOP GOVERNMENT GROWTH
The government is too big. We need to be fiscally responsible by supporting taxpayer priorities with our current resources. We must balance the budget while respecting the taxpayers’ hard earned dollars.

FUND EDUCATION
Children are the foundation of our future. It is important they are provided with a good education. We need to use our dollars wisely and ensure the funding reaches the classrooms.

STRENGTHEN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM
As a Co-Chair of the Public Safety Task Force, I am focused on common sense policies, which provide ultimate safety for Oregonians.

issues3IN THE PAST LEGISLATIVE SESSION, I HAVE PUT OUR COMMUNITY’S CONCERNS INTO ACTION:

  • Proposed legislation to help eliminate food stamp fraud while ensuring those in need are not hindered
  • Honored our military servicemen and their families through the installation of HWY Memorial Signs
  • Proposed legislation to prohibit minors from purchasing electronic cigarettes
  • Crafted legislation to create a Healthcare Dividend Program, which provides tax relief and incentives for employees who participate in a wellness program
  • Opposed any legislation that would weaken our Second Amendment
  • Strengthened the metal theft law
  • Assisted small businesses by providing clarification to the window tinting law
  • Participated in the Rules Advisory Committee governing medical marijuana
  • Passed legislation to create a safer community by updating the requirements for sex offenders
